Your child asking you, “Where did I come from?” is usually a milestone moment in parenting- since it signifies that your child has started wondering about their identity. But many of us squander away this opportunity by either avoiding answering this question altogether or covering it with euphemisms. In the 19th episode, hosts Dr Meghna and Devishobha discuss why talking about sex and sexuality and bodies with even young children is not just important but can be very comfortable too. It sends the message to your child that talking about sex in an open and honest manner is essential to having healthy relationships with others. The hosts discuss how to utilise teachable moments in having these conversations with children, and how talking about sex doesn't only mean talking about sexual intercourse. What respectful relationships look like, what are healthy boundaries in relationships, how we can keep our bodies safe, how to navigate consent in relationships, how to prevent sexual victimization….ALL of this is ALSO talking to kids about sex and sexuality. The hosts also discuss what’s missing from our school in sex education. The hosts share their guidelines on how to have sex conversations in an age-appropriate manner: BIMB= Talking about BodyI= Talking about IntimacyM= Talking about MediaBig Talk About Tiny Humans is India’s first research-based podcast for parenting and educators, hosted by Devishobha Chandramouli and Dr Meghna.
