A rainbow is a promise. God our father reaffirmed the promise he made about our redemption in the Garden of Eden when Noah landed on the rock after having spent 40 days and 40 nights in the ark during the flood. The Lord stopped the rain, and gave us a double rainbow. We believe that when we die, when we shake off this mortal coil, we go to the next step in our eternal existence, from a physical, bodily life, to a new life, a new beginning.

Robert Hugh Benson (1871 - 1914) was an English Anglican priest who left the Anglican church to became a Roman Catholic priest in 1904. He was a prolific writer (perhaps most famous for his fictional book Lord of the World), who also progressed through the hierarchy to become a Chamberlain to Pope Pius X in 1911. In this audiobook he recounts his life, focusing mostly on his decision to join the Roman Catholic church. It is a powerful story of the journey of a man who withstood the social pressures of his time to do what he thought was right.

There was a flurry in the quiet kitchen. Dusk had no sooner settled into night, when dawn was desperately trying to break through. Water was boiling; the midwife was there to assist the bringing into the world of a new life. It was a girl! The pain of childbirth soon disappeared, as the mother held her new baby in her arms.

Yet, he is the patron of Eucharistic congresses and Confraternities of the Blessed Sacrament. His whole life centered around the Eucharist, for which he is most known, yet he would not become a priest. He felt only called to be a brother.

St. Francis worked hard at evangelizing Calvinist Protestants to return to the Catholic faith. However, they were afraid of the backlash, and so, St. Francis wrote pamphlets and slipped them under doors and posted them on walls. After four years of his efforts, more than 70,000 people had returned to the faith. When we talk of saints who have been maligned, misunderstood, and mistreated, no one deserves more a place in this book than venerable Pope Pius XII. We have learned late in life that the history passed down depends on the authors, not necessarily on the facts. Mary’s appearance to five children in Beauraing, Belgium, in November and December of 1932 has always fascinated us. There are so many aspects of the visit from Our Heavenly Lady that we don’t quite understand. But we know there was a need for Mary to come to our aid in this place at this time. Nothing is by coincidence with her. Every time she comes to us in an apparition, she has to upset the balance of nature and break through the dimension separating heaven and earth just to make contact with us.

The miracle that occurred in AD 700 was just the beginning. That was 1250 years ago. Had that miracle taken place and then the flesh and blood disintegrated, as would have been normal, the miracle would have been nonetheless a miracle. The priest's faith had been renewed. The entire town - the whole country, for that matter - became aware of the miracle.
