Former US Senator from Maine, George Mitchell on this edition of Fresh Air. After leaving the Senate he chaired the Northern Ireland peace talks. His book Making Peace, is about his work on that negotiation. He recently headed an international panel examining the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. He returned to the screen in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and recently in The Limey. His latest film is My Wife Is an Actress.

Former White House adviser David Gergen on this edition of Fresh Air. Gergen worked with Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton. He left politics and become a regular analyst on The Newshour with Jim Lehrer and Nightline. He is also editor-at-large at U.S. News & World Report. His new book is Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership.

His film credits include Boogie Nights, Anna Karenina, and Prick Up Your Ears.

Writer Vernor Vinge and actor Steve Buscemi on this edition of Fresh Air. The author of 16 books of science fiction, Vernor Vinge gained a cult following for his early role in writing about cyber-culture and the Internet. His new book, Across Realtime, came out earlier this year. He talks about the difficulty of writing science fiction when technology outdates itself as rapidly as it does. Vinge teaches computer science at San Diego State.

Comedian Marc Maron and gossip columnist Liz Smith on this edition of Fresh Air. Maron's hit one-man show in Manhattan, Jerusalem Syndrome, is described as a "poetically paranoid rant on corporate culture and the quest for spiritual fulfillment." Maron has appeared on David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and was the host of Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater.

Presiding over his own Pentecostal church in Memphis for the last 20 years, Green recently returned to the recording studio to record a set of gospel songs. A popular culture icon, he's had cameo roles in movies and TV shows. He lives in Memphis, Tenn.
