Into the North Wind chronicles Jill Homer’s record-breaking bicycle ride across Alaska on the Iditarod Trail. Jill is one of those “accidental athletes” who stumbled into endurance racing shortly after she moved to Alaska in 2005. First published in 1887, ‘The Blind Brother’ was one of American author Homer Greene’s earliest works. The tale follows the story of two brothers, 14-year-old Tom Taylor and his blind younger brother Bennie, and their experiences while working in the Pennsylvania coal mines. The boy’s father was killed in a mining accident some years previously, and now the brothers must work to make ends meet. A heart-warming story of brotherly love, the novel also gives a vivid insight into the daily life of a mine worker - detailing strikes, gangs and cave-ins.

‘A Tale of the Tow-Path’ by American author Homer Greene, is a short story which follows the exploits of the young son of a farmer, Joe Gaston. Following a disagreement with his father Joe runs away from home, leaving his mother and sister heartbroken. Unbeknownst to him, a horse thief stole into the family stable and took a horse the same night Joe made his escape. Now suspected of stealing the horse too, will Joe and his family ever be able to reconcile?

But in his sleep, he is touched by an angel who provides food and water. In this moment, the broom tree becomes a symbol for shelter in a barren landscape, a portent of hope and renewal.
