Anna’s quest for answers about her future propels her to follow Lucifer down the veritable rabbit hole. During her foolhardy expedition, she discovers the truth about Lucifer’s domain and the truth about Lucifer himself. Anna and the other Watchers soon uncover Lucifer’s master plan to prevent her from obtaining any more of the seals. Armed with this knowledge, Anna can only discern two possible motives for Lucifer’s actions: Either he is simply protecting her the only way he knows how, or he wants to retain his power on Earth and ensure his daughter never claims her birthright.

As Helena attempts to placate those who would much rather see her sister dead than alive, she realizes her plan needs to be accelerated in order to guarantee its success.

As Jess deals with the repercussions of Ravan’s latest earth-shattering actions, she soon realizes that not everything is as it seems. Being surrounded by the enemy on all sides, Jess quickly learns who has her back and who wants to stab it. Once she’s able to carry on with her God given mission, the stakes rise to monstrous proportions for Jess and the other vessels, forcing them to place their lives on the line for a world that is not their own.

As Jess and Mason continue their battle against the princes of Hell on alternate Earth, they must first deal with the aftermath of their failures. After neglecting to prevent the fourth seal from being opened, a new threat is unleashed on the world that only Jess and the other vessels can neutralize. Each of them was brought to this alternate reality for a purpose, and only through facing adversity can they truly find their strengths.

While Anna and Malcolm anxiously await the birth of their twins, the universe is besieged by the complications of bringing a corporeal version of Hell into being. As Empress and Emperor of Cirrus, Anna and Malcolm must also deal with the politics of trying to unite those who live in the down-world with the pampered citizens within the cloud cities. Anna quickly learns that changing the way people think can be a daunting task, especially when the princes of Hell attempt to thwart her plans at every turn.
