When Curmudgeon Avenue introduces sisters Edna and Edith Payne, their presence is not welcomed by the proud, yet grouchy Victorian terrace. Widowed Edith is looking for love, and dates one of Edna's ex-boyfriends Maurice. This does not end well, especially for the cat. Edna is heartbroken after her long-term partner moved to France and is now unhappily cohabiting with her idiot sister.

When we return to Curmudgeon Avenue in Book Two, Harold and Edith jump on the rollercoaster of romantic comedy. Ricky Ricketts continues his on/off entanglement with Wantha Rose, Edna is missing presumed living in France, and the house itself is still exasperated - but wait! Who is this mysterious man driving his expensive car up and down Curmudgeon Avenue?

Edna Payne's heart-thumping second-chance romance with Genevieve Dubois is rekindled when we return to Curmudgeon Avenue. The couple escapes the humdrum life of Whitefield when they move to France. However, when Edna seeks to embrace all things European, Genevieve shuns her French roots. Now that Genevieve's secrets are exposed, will they return to Curmudgeon Avenue? Meanwhile, in Whitefield, two heavily pregnant women are proving to be a complication for Ricky Ricketts.

The house on Curmudgeon Avenue should be happy now—the nincompoop residents have all met their sorry ends. But they haven't quite left...now that a new family move in, can the house find peace? Or are the ghosts of Curmudgeon Avenue going to interfere with the goings-on, romance, and dramas that new residents bring?
