While there, Finn meets an old friend who gives him a sealed letter from Finn's father, claiming that he was killed by a fellow veteran, a man he investigated for crimes in the Vietnam War. As Finn and Mary sail to the Caribbean in pursuit of the killer, they discover an empire built on crime and corruption.

Using advanced technology to produce credible but false news stories, cells of anarchists are fanning the flames between people at the liberal and conservative extremes of society. Their goal is to provoke violence in the streets to destroy America and her allies.

Corporate criminals co-opted the artificial intelligence system they were paid to develop under a classified government contract. The crooked executives used the system to support their drug-smuggling, human-trafficking, and money-laundering operations.
