He published his first Novel "Der Sattelwolf" ("The Saddle Wolf") by the age of 19 and soon became one of Germanys most famous writers of Western Novels in the great american tradition. His first influences were Louis Lamour, Billy Jenkins and Jack London. During the sixties he developed his own unique style and voice, which extended the boundaries of the formerly more one-dimensional western-genre dramatically, employing a direct, spare language to the western novel. His diction resembled often to a movie-script, by mentioning only a few, well-chosen details, creating a very dense and intense atmosphere. U.H. Wilken introduced the features of a John Ford- or Sergio Leone-Western into the more traditional western-genre. U.H. Wilken has written over 600 Novels; more than 80 million copies of his books were already sold during his lifetime, making him one of the greatest bestseller authors in the history of the Western Novel in Continental Europe. His books have been translated into many languages, and appeared in Israel, China, Brasil, Belgium, Netherlands only to name a few. Outstanding are his three famous series of historic Western Novels: DAN OAKLAND STORY, CHEYENNE and ZURDO. The first was created with documentary support by the University of Wisconsin, Connecticut. U.H. Wilken has lived and worked in El Paso (Texas), Denia (Spain), Fez (Marocco) and in his native country Western-Germany. His Novels are praised by fans, critics and collegues alike as modern classics of the western-genre.
