In this episode of LDS Missionary Moms, I share a personal story from my own experience when my son had a difficult and unsafe missionary companion. I explain how this experience affected my nervous system and led me through different emotional stages. I introduce the concept of the "Zone of Resilience" and describe how our brains react to stress by shifting into what I call "Team Hyper" or "Team Hypo."
In this episode, I discuss:
- How to recognize when you're leaving your Zone of Resilience
- The signs of being in "Team Hyper" (such as anxiety, anger, and racing thoughts) or "Team Hypo" (which involves shutdown, withdrawal, and disconnection)
- Practical tools to help you return to a state of balance and regulation
- The importance of understanding your body's response to stress, especially when supporting your missionary
