  • House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 8 "The Queen Who Ever Was"
    2024/09/14

On this episode of Small Screen Couch Commentary, Alex and Billy dive deep into the epic events of House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 8, titled "The Queen Who Ever Was." A finale that is packed with drama, some humor, and perhaps leaving us with more questions than we thought we would have at this point.

The episode kicks off with Aemond’s controversial alliance with the Triarchy, negotiated by Tyland Lannister, who has a wild encounter with their pirate admiral, Lohar. Things get muddy—literally—with a hilarious mud-wrestling challenge, but Tyland secures the alliance. Meanwhile, Aemond is spiraling, torching Sharp Point in a fit of rage after his retreat from Dragonstone. Larys Strong warns Aegon, suggesting a hasty escape before his brother returns. Alicent tries to figure out what lies in own future and she considers fleeing with Helaena but remains stuck between protecting her family and Aemond’s war path.

On Dragonstone, Rhaenyra and her new dragonriders prepare for what is sure to be a bold and bloody war. Meanwhile, Daemon is deep in Harrenhal politics, but his visions of the future, guided by Alys Rivers, transform his perspective on the war and his loyalty to Rhaenyra.

The episode’s emotional core hits when Alicent and Rhaenyra meet again, their relationship strained by war and loss. The two women face hard choices, knowing their next moves may doom their families. With dragonriders ready for battle and armies mobilizing, the stage is set for the next deadly phase of the Dance of the Dragons.

  • House Of The Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 "The Red Sowing"
    2024/09/14

On this week's Small Screen Couch Commentary, Alex and Billy break down House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 7, titled "The Red Sowing." Get ready for dragons and drama as we dive into the chaos.

In King's Landing, Alicent is recovering from her injury from last episode’s riot and taking a “mental health day” by camping in the Kingswood, while back at the Red Keep, Aegon struggles through painful physical therapy after his injuries at Rook’s Rest. Meanwhile, Aemond is taking command, sending some of Aegon’s Whitecloak friends to the Wall and plotting his next moves with Larys Strong.

On Dragonstone, Rhaenyra deals with internal strife as she auditions new dragonriders to strengthen her forces. Addam Velaryon bonds with Seasmoke, but her son Jace is uneasy, feeling threatened by the addition of new riders. Rhaenyra’s plan to recruit Targaryen bastards to claim unclaimed dragons leads to the fiery and deadly “Red Sowing” ceremony, where many perish attempting to bond with the dragons. Hugh the Hammer makes an impression, winning over the mighty Vermithor, while Ulf the White manages to claim Silverwing in a lucky encounter.

As Aemond takes to the skies on Vhagar to investigate the growing dragon activity around Dragonstone, he realizes that Rhaenyra now has a formidable number of dragons—and things are heating up for the coming war. Alex and Billy give their take on the episode’s big moments, speculate on what’s next for the show, and offer their usual blend of witty banter and fiery insights.
