  • Listening through Bearing Witness with Dusk Liney
    2021/12/09

Welcome to the sixth episode of The Listening Way.  This episode is a special one as Dusk becomes the guest and is joined by guest host Andrew.  Andrew has been a pastoral leader for 36 years, where he loves the grounded, compassionate, generous, ordinary goodness of the St Kilda Baptist community and working within its pastoral and leadership teams. Andrew is also a Spiritual Director and a member of WellSpring’s formation team for the training of Spiritual Companions. While fully committed to life at St Kilda, Andrew and his partner Alice are also members of the Holy Transfiguration Community which is based in Teesdale outside Geelong. Andrew enjoys silence and would rather listen to a person than read a book.

Today we delve deeper into Dusk's listening way and her story of arriving at this work.

Dusk Liney is a listener and space holder, who lives, works and mothers on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Land. Dusk has two businesses: The Listening Squad (with her biz partner Jo) and The Listening Mama. Dusk is a space holder, spiritual companion, birth doula and matrescence facilitator. Weaving this all together, Dusk meets people in the midst of their life and listens to their story. She invites people to encounter their inner wisdom and live from that place into their lives, work or birth. The way Dusk holds space is informed by community development, the contemplative movement, birth and motherhood studies and the therapeutic tool of spiritual companionship. Dusk believes in the power of bearing witness to someones' story because every person is of value and needs to be heard.

    In the episode we discover:

    • Listening as a way of healing
    • How Dusk practiced sitting with and listening to herself
    • Listening through bearing witness of sacred stories
    • The power of speaking things out loud

    Thank you for listening!

The Listening Way is a love letter to listening. It holds contemplative conversations on how listening shapes our way of being in the world. The podcast uncovers the different ways that we listen and invites us to practice them again. Hosted by Dusk Liney from The Listening Squad, where we dream of a listening revolution where every person is heard.

  • Welcome to The Listening Way
    2021/04/08

The Listening Squad dreams of a listening revolution, where every person is heard. We imagine a world where we deeply listen to ourselves and one another.

Yet over the last few years, I have been stirred by so many conversations with people about our biz name. As soon as they hear it, they say: "I'm such a bad listener." And yet, in the midst of our chat I have felt so heard by them in their unique way. Somehow, over time, we have developed a fixed view of what listening looks like. And as a result, we live without awareness of our beautiful listening way.

So The Listening Way is a love letter to listening. It is a podcast that uncovers the different ways that we listen and invites us to practice them again.

Over the season, The Listening Way holds contemplative conversations with people about how listening shapes their way of being in the world. We explore the role of listening in our connection to ourselves, one another and our shared humanity. Always asking the question, what's your listening way.

The Listening Way will be launching on Friday 16th April! I'm so excited to share it with you. Together, let's reclaim the lost art of listening.
