"Barefoot over the Serengeti" is the story of a unique childhood... With seven years, David Read came into the land of the Masai. He maintained a close friendship with a young Masai tribe and learned about the life of the people close to know and love. The narrative gives the listener a genuine insight into the life of this African nation.

The war was over and David, returning to East Africa, asked himself, as did many of his contemporaries, "what next"? It was not an easy world in which to readjust. He opted to become a Livvestock Marketing Officer in Dodoma, with the Tanganyika Veterinary Department. Money was short, and Pat, who had also been demobbed and had joined him in Dodoma, nursed to help augment their income. Finally, the break David had been hoping for materialized and he embarked on a new chapter in his life as a wheat farmer on the Western slopes of Kilimanjaro.

"Waters of the Sanjan" is fiction based on fact, woven around the life of a known (Masai) warrior who lived at the turn of the century. It is an historical novel and the events portrayed were not unusual in the life of a warrior of those times. The customs and traditions are accurate; the places where events took place are real places and to date still go by the same name the Waters of the Sanjan, translated literally, Inkariak-oo-Sanjan.
