This book is intended for adults only. It is an erotic story from the Victorian era, written by Edward Sellon, a prolific writer of such erotic stories. The hero, or perhaps "anti-hero", of this novella is a sensual surgeon, who lovingly tends to the ladies of his practice, offering sexual experiences to his female patient as as well as medicine. As is the case with most erotic books of this period, it is extremely "bawdy" and sexually explicit, no doubt as a "pushback" to the extreme puritanism of official Victorian society.

Arabella is a proud woman of Victorian England who rebels against the puritanical norms of society. She learns early in life that she loves the pleasures of sex and is in no way ashamed of her feelings. In fact, she felt sorry for women who did not experience the joys of sex but saw it merely as a rather "shameful duty". She describes, in great detail, the many “erotic adventures” she and her friends participate in behind the closed doors of fashionable Victorian homes.

This is the story of a young Victorian girl named Laura, and her sexual awakening, at the hands of both her new lover, and her brother. All three become very close indeed, and the story chronicles a wide range of their sexual experiences and adventures.

In this book, written entirely in letters, we meet a young Victorian couple who are, at least in the beginning, profoundly ignorant of anything to do with sex. Then they meet a “woman with experience”, and their sexual education begins. They are soon awakened to their amorous longings and describe exactly how that happens in a series of letters. This book is for adults only, since the descriptions describe a wide variety of sexual activities very explicitly. Like many books of Victorian erotica, this book is a fascinating look at the “other side” of the Victorian era.
