Captain Falchion of Falchion’s Company has reached the pinnacle of the mercenary profession. But that only means the jobs become more challenging. Falchion, now captain of his own outfit, faces not only opposing mercenary companies just as deadly as his own, and the magical threats posed by psychotic wizards, but also stingy, second-guessing employers. A city governed by wizards can still have an underbelly that is governed by crime lords. Out-of-work mercenary Falchion arrives in the city of Groft and signs on with the boss of the organized crime outfit. But when Falchion’s distaste for the work angers the boss, his only move is to become the boss himself.

From fighting an ancient sorcerer beneath a lost Mayan city to a deadly cat-and-mouse chase with a voodoo priest through an off-shore oil rig, Karl Thorson can’t seem to escape shoot-outs with the supernatural. Can he fulfill his contracts, survive brushes with witches and magically juiced outlaw bikers, and maybe, just maybe, enjoy a cold beer?
