Daphne Coleman is in the dumps. The grand reopening of the Riverside Lodge and Kennel restaurant is a grand success, but Daphne can't get her eyes off the table where her life-long crush, Jason Henning, is drooling over his date, the obnoxious and gorgeous local reporter Helen Meeks. Go figure some guys. And here she is, stuck with the chronic bickering of Elissa and her boyfriend Manny plus her mother's all-seeing, all-knowing eyes on her.

But when a publicity stunt turns deadly at the Riverside Lodge and Kennel, everyone is getting the heebie-jeebies. And, once again, all are suspects in a murder. To drum up business for the still faltering Lodge, new owner Jason Henning (and Daphne's long-time crush) has brought in a ghost hunting team to investigate the "haunted" areas of the building.

Daphne Coleman's life is not going at all as planned, and it just got worse. Here she is, back after college, working full time now at her old summer job as kennel manager at Riverside Lodge and Kennel. So much for her hard-earned degree in Greek and Roman mythology! To make matters worse, the lodge is now owned by a former classmate and the homecoming queen, Cassandra Weatherstone, who's dating the love of Daphne's life while running the place into the ground with her outlandish ideas.

Skyler discovers her growing reputation as a detective can work against her when she gets strong armed into a murder investigation by a hotel manager wanting to salvage his hotel's reputation. Months have passed since Skyler's last case but another guest drops dead, this time at an enormous gala in New York celebrating an upstart high tech company.
