Doctors at War is a candid account of a trauma surgical team based, for a tour of duty, at a field hospital in Helmand, Afghanistan. Mark de Rond tells of the highs and lows of surgical life in hard-hitting detail, bringing to life a morally ambiguous world in which good people face impossible choices and in which routines designed to normalize experience have the unintended effect of highlighting war’s absurdity. With stories that are at once comical and tragic, de Rond captures the surreal experience of being a doctor at war.

Charlotte Mary Yonge (1823-1901) was a prolific English novelist. The Little Duke, the first of her historical tales for children, was published in 1854. The main character is Richard Duke of Normandy, the great grandfather of William the Conqueror. The first part concentrates on Richard's failings, their punishment, and his reform, and the second part on his virtues. At the beginning of the tale, Richard is a boy of eight who becomes duke when his father dies in 943 AD. His overlord King Louis brings the boy to the French court where his life seems to be in peril.

Early Days in the Black Hills with Some Account of Capt. Jack Crawford was originally published in 1892 and features several of his adventures in the early Black Hills gold rush. It also deals with the legendary John Wallace (Captain Jack) Crawford (1847 - 1917), known as "The Poet Scout". Crawford was an American adventurer, educator, and master storyteller about the Wild West.
