The annual conference offers world-class education with over 100 leading scientists, doctors and experts specialized in their fields, presenting the latest cutting edge treatments to tried and true therapies in understanding and healing the epidemic of neurologically damaged children in our country. AutismOne’s call to action invites parents to “Be Part of the Healing Autism Movement.” Hundreds of parents will be attending the conference to find out how to help their children.     Mental illness’ has been embedded in our culture since the beginning of time. Some religions believed that mental disorders were caused by one of the gods, others believed that disturbances were caused by problems in the relationship between the individual and God or that abnormal behavior represented the wrath and punishment from God. The punishment was seen as a withdrawal of God's protection and the abandonment of the individual to evil forces, and the mentally ill considered incapable of deserving humane treatment and protection. Although the definitions of mental illness changed through the centuries, the social stigma remained the same. The techniques used to ‘cure’ have ranged from leeching to hysterectomies, electroshock therapy and psychotropic drugging and yet the rates of mood disorders keep escalating and the stigma still remains unchanged. Until now. Is it really possible that mental wellness is our choice?

    Karen’s daughter, Lorrin was born in1994. At six weeks, she had an adverse reaction to her one and only DPT vaccination leaving her with severe brain damage. The doctors never had hope for Lorrin’s future and suggested Karen get on with her life. Feeling abandoned by modern medicine, Karen turned to alternative treatments and spiritual guidance. Despite all of Karen’s best efforts, Lorrin continued to have horrible episodes of uncontrolled seizures that would land them in the hospital for days. Karen spent every fiber of her being creating as normal life as possible for her daughter. She enrolled Lorrin in regular schools; encouraged sleep overs with her girlfriends, provided horseback riding lessons, and enrolled Lorrin in the Miss Teen Pasadena Pageant. Lorrin experienced a full life within her restricted physical environment; yet unlimited spiritual environment. Karen’s mission was successful; however short lived. But Lorrin lived a unique life fully lived.

    On March 30, the CDC released its latest report on autism rates in 11 states in the U.S. The data shows a disturbing 30% increase in ASD over the data reported in 2010. Although the CDC acknowledges ASD is on the rise, they claim to be stymied as to why while lamely citing increased ‘awareness’ and ‘misdiagnosis’. Earlier this year, biochemist Dr. Brian Hooker created a firestorm when he revealed he obtained sensitive CDC documents through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. His analysis shows statistically significant risks of autism associated with the vaccine preservative Thimerosal (mercury), citing methodical itemized ‘misrepresentations and outright errors’ in the government’s analysis. Hooker will reveal that the CDC is aware that pregnant women getting the flu vaccine are 8 times more likely to bear a child with neurological impairment. And that infant exposure to vaccines increases their likelihood of developing ASD by 7.6 times. What is the government hiding and why?

    Why is it that some people are able to defend a viral attack and others are not? Why is it that some children develop autism, or suffer a severe reaction to a vaccine – while others do not?     Richard Diaz, author of Illness Defined has been an outspoken advocate on the dangers associated with mercury exposure for the past 30 years.
