Many of us have heard “mindset” before, but what does it mean? The term “mindset” describes a person’s attitude and outlook. There are two types of mindsets: the gap mindset and the gain mindset. The gap mindset can be negative or positive, but either way, it focuses on what you don’t have or where you fall short. For example, someone with a gap mindset might think, “I hate my job because I don’t make enough money to buy nice things,” or “I can’t do that because I am not good enough at it.” On the other hand, people with a gained mindset focus on how they can improve themselves and grow in their lives. They see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than problems that must be fixed. For example, someone with a gain mindset may say, “I love my job, but I want to learn more skills so that someday I can get promoted,” or “I don't know how to do this yet, but with practice and time, it will come naturally!
