  • The Impact of Fad Diets

    In this episode, we're diving deep into the damage caused by fad diets. We'll explore the physical and psychological impact of restrictive diets, and discuss the negative language we use when it comes to food. But it doesn't end there - we'll also unpack the prevalence of unhealthy food choices and the addictive nature of processed foods. 

     

    However, there is hope! We'll explore a path toward true health and nourishment that goes beyond calorie counting and guilt. It's about embracing a holistic approach and listening to our body's wisdom. I'll also introduce my Nourish Me for Life program, which focuses on mindset as a key element in finding freedom from destructive eating habits.

Inspired by my approach to food and wellbeing, Kelly decided to invest in themselves after experiencing health issues and a pre-diabetes diagnosis.     In today's episode, I'm diving deep into a topic that hits close to home for many of us, and something that I really struggled with myself for many, many years, and that's unhealthy addictions to food and emotional eating. Have you ever found yourself turning to food for comfort, stress relief, or a way to cope with challenging emotions? Then this episode is for you. Join me as we explore the emotional journey of food addiction. Uncover the science behind it, and discover strategies for cultivating a healthier relationship with food.

     

    Here are the highlights:

    • (01:23)  We've all experienced those moments when life feels really overwhelming, stress weighs us down, and emotions run high.

    • (01:35) We just want to dive into sort of our high carbohydrate, fatty, sugary meal. 

    • (02:27) What happens when this coping mechanism becomes a cycle of unhealthy addictions and emotional eating?

    • (02:56) We feel guilty and shame about what we've done, and that vicious cycle just begins.

    • (03:08) The act of using food as a way to soothe or suppress emotions is a complex struggle that many of us face.

    • (03:35)  Emotional eating has been found to be closely linked to the brain's reward system.

    • 03:54) Breaking free from emotional eating and unhealthy addictions to food is a journey of self-discovery and self-compassion.

    • (07:55) Write down your dialogue, see what comes up, and then decide

    • (09:19)  Health is much more important than these short-term fixes.

It's really about building resilience, which is something that is paramount in our fast-paced, ever-evolving work environments. Remember that every challenge we face at work is an opportunity for growth. We can always choose to turn a setback into a comeback.

    • (01:46) Put my head in my hands and just cry with the amount of work that I had and the impact it was having on my health and my wellbeing.

    • (02:38) Every time we can turn that negativity into a positive thought, we are building muscle in our brains so that positivity becomes more natural to us.

    • (03:35) A healthy diet and enough sleep can boost your mood, give you the energy to tackle challenges and increase your tolerance for stress.
