  • Episode 15 | The Power of Hypnotherapy
    2022/10/17

Welcome to Episode 15 of ‘The Men Who: Talk’. Today we’re joined by Kirsty Freeland. Kirsty is an accredited Analytical Hypnotherapist, and for over 35 years has been helping people through their problems. With a degree in Psychology, she uses this as an insight into the way the subconscious mind interprets the world. Hypnotherapy delves deep into the subconscious mind and can help to achieve a more balanced and less harmful way of reacting to the world around us. Recalling his own experiences as a client, John and Kirsty explore what hypnotherapy is (and what it’s not), as well as how the mind quite often gets it wrong and inflicts us with fears, anxieties, habits and behaviours that limit our enjoyment of life and hold us back.

  • Episode 14 | What Men Need to Know About Periods
    2022/10/10

Welcome to Episode 14 of ‘The Men Who: Talk’. Today we’re joined by Abu Adams, founder of Project Woman: a membership for the woman that wants to move with curiosity, power and confidence through life and enjoy every moment of it. Abi gives women the permission to feel and express themselves with confidence and clarity using her 20 years of studying and travelling the earth learning holistic approaches and harmonising them with the science of female physiology. As part of her work with Project Woman, Abi discusses in detail the need for, and benefits of, men having a better understanding the female menstrual cycle, which include: takesing the stress out of worrying if that person is going to blow their top or accuse you of something you might not have done; by supporting a woman when she needs it will see her want to support you in return; synergy - we realise we are not alone as we see our own health needs in the other; break throughs in conditioning and beliefs from the past that see women as less capable than men, keeping us in the victim/blame state; you deepen your relationship through understanding the impact hormonal changes can have on emotions, elevating your communication; reflects an opportunity to share how you are feeling, changing the dynamics of your relationships; reduces emotional rollercoasters and habitual responses on an individual basis as well as in relationships.

To further your education on the above topics, Abi recommends checking out the following books:

    1. The Dance of The Lion & The Unicorn - building a fulfilling and supportive relationship that will last
    2. Unwell Women - the historical evolution of female health
    3. Wise Power - emotional understanding of the monthly cycle

Project Woman will be going on tour next year with the intention of changing the way women retreat.

  • Episode 13 | The Poetry Pharmacy
    2022/09/26

Welcome to Episode 13 of ‘The Men Who: Talk’. This week we’re sharing with you a little aid we occasionally use in our men’s talking circles to bring fresh, but not necessarily new, perspective into our conversation. To complement our words, on occasion, we’ve turned to a little but much loved that provides solace and perspective. The book is called The Poetry Pharmacy, and it’s by an author called William Sieghart. The best way to describe The Poetry Pharmacy is as a light compendium of poetry and verse that Sieghart has collected over the course of his career in publishing and the arts. Alongside each poem is a short essay or passage on what that poem means to the author, on the themes that it explores and the message, or messages, it presents to the reader. Tying together both poem and essay, Sieghart has attributed a mental or emotional wellbeing experience to each, chosen on the basis that the words within can act as a balm or a remedy for many of life’s most common conditions. Together, he calls these words ‘prescriptions for the heart, mind and soul’. In this episode John shares two of these ‘prescriptions’ with you, each one relevant to our group at The Men Who: but also to the prevailing narrative of today’s complex and uncertain world. Whether you choose to read it privately or share it with your own community, we're certain that it will bring you just a little bit of inner peace and help quieten the nature of the mind.

Find out more about The Poetry Pharmacy and and the author at https://poetrypharmacy.co.uk.
