  • Thriving Through Positive Psychology: Insights from Therapist Lauren Gehman on Mental Health

    Lauren Gehman, LCSW is a licensed therapist working with adolescents, adults, and families through the lens of cognitive behavioral therapy and positive psychology. Lauren joined Teach For America after college, where she learned of her love for working to understand what motivates and challenges humans. Following the two-year commitment, Lauren attended Tulane's School of Social Work and later taught as part of the adjunct faculty. She spent 20 years as a school counselor and enjoyed serving as the head of the counseling department for her last 12 years at the school. Lauren created and teaches a Positive Psychology course with The Global Online Academy allowing her to work with students worldwide. Along with in-office sessions, Lauren conducts therapy by the lake through RUN WALK TALK©, which recognizes that being outdoors while jogging or walking can make it easier to access and open up about difficult life circumstances. Lauren believes therapy is a collaborative process most effective when clients feel empowered to explore how to create and enhance a sense of meaning, purpose, and connection in all areas of living.

Due to his knowledge and practical approach, he is frequently sent cases by Functional Medicine leaders and practitioners across the country. He graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine and the Tulane University School of Public Health in 2011 and completed his residency in Family Practice 2014. In his private practice, he is passionate about delivering cost-effective and practical care with a focus on GI health, environmental toxicity, and preventative medicine.   • Pelvic Floor Dysfunction with Dr. Ryan Krlin

    In this episode of The Mind-Body Connection, Dr. Kelly interviews Dr. Ryan Krlin, a Urogynecologist Surgeon with the LSU Health Urology Group. Dr. Krlin discusses the importance of women’s pelvic floor health, and how modern medicine and physical therapy can help heal. We also talk about the cycle of chronic pain and tension, and how women can take steps to improve their own pelvic health.

    A native of Oklahoma, Dr. Ryan Krlin graduated with honors from Oklahoma State University with degrees in Biochemistry and Spanish. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, finishing in the top quartile of his class. Following graduation in 2005 he moved to New Orleans where he completed an urology residency in the Louisiana State University-Ochsner Clinic program. He then completed two years of subspecialty training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) in an ABU/ABOG accredited fellowship at the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute of the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He returned to LSU to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Urology teaching medical students, residents and fellows.

    As a fellow he honed his surgical and diagnostic skills in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, genitourinary fistulae, urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction and neurourological disorders. He is well-versed in the latest treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical, for male and female pelvic floor disorders including robotic surgery, sacral neuromodulation, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, Botox® and other injectable therapies. Dr. Krlin has published multiple articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, authored textbook chapters in his subspeciality and presents at national meetings. He is a member of the American Urological Association and the Society for Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction. His clinical practice is part of the LSU Health Urology Group, delivering state of the art care to both English and Spanish-speaking patients at their offices in New Orleans and Metairie.
