  • How To Keep A Balanced and Creative Life
    2024/01/31

This episode is my most stream-of-consciousness yet!

I've been juggling a lot of balls lately between my personal life, professional life, semi-professional creative life and creative lifestyle... It's a lot of hats and a lot of balls, and I've never been good at circus skills.

After talking with a bunch of creative people in my life, I realised it's a common theme - trying to manage all the elements of our lives that make us us.

With so many plates to spin, it's fair enough that we can smash a few or, at least, get a sore arm.

This episode is about all of that. I wanted to break down all the components of life but focused on what that means as an artist. It's an honest episode because it's something that I have struggled with at times, and these are the things I've learned and tested to try and make it... easier.

Some of it will be obvious, but we all take the obvious for granted sometimes, so consider it a reminder.

This episode is the biggest philosophy-vibed one yet. Much of it came from me figuring it out in my morning journal pages after sending myself mad with being overwhelmed and committing to too many things (typical).

Enjoy it, and consider it a big hug from me.

    Happy 2024, kids!

  • How NOT to go mad when you're a Solo Artist
    2023/10/13

A solo episode where I get real honest about my experience of putting on my first solo show and how wild it is that it seems that all creatives feel the same thing through every phase of a new work that has intention of going to the public.
I learnt a lot about my creative self through this process, and the things that I need to make BETTER work.
This episode explores the similarities between different artistic disciplines and how you can be the best solo artist when you allow yourself two very important things.

    1. An epic drafting process
    2. A teammate (aka carer) while you're in eye of the storm of your art

    Thanks for listening!

This is an entertaining, heartfelt, funny, and sometimes silly interview with Dr Suzie J. Jarmain, an award-winning performing arts professional with over thirty years as a performer, actor, theatremaker and writer. We had the best time recording this interview, and it shows; I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Suzie is an educational facilitator with eighteen years of experience in the tertiary, public, private and corporate sectors, specialing in working with and utilizing the relationship between identity and realistic acting, performance and presenting.

She has worked with performance companies across Australia and the UK, to name a few; the National Theatre of Scotland (UK), BBC Scotland (UK), North Edinburgh Arts Centre (UK), Melbourne Theatre Company (AUS), Victorian College of the Arts (AUS), Melbourne University (AUS), NIDA Open, Melbourne Actors Guild (AUS) and Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP).

In 2016, Suzie was awarded the Australian Phillip Parson’s Prize for performance-as-research from the Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA, AUS), leading to her presenting her acting research at national and international conferences.

She is preparing to debut her new solo work, which we discuss in the interview, a show that is creating new approaches to combining live performance with educational methods and developing different techniques for actor training.

She has published a number of articles

    • Acting Dangerously: confessions of a Transformational Actor (ArtsHub 2022, AUS)
    • Beyond Real(ism)- an investigation of the Twenty-First Century Transformational Actor and Identity (www.theofficial.net.au, 2020, AUS)

  • Burnout is real
    2023/07/19

If there's one thing I'm a professional at, it's being burnt out. It's not fun, helpful and certainly doesn't help your creativity, so let's kick it to the curb.

If you answer YES to any of the following, this episode is for you.

    • Are you tired from trying to make perfect work?
    • Are you tired from looking for the right job to support/step you towards the goal?
    • Are you tired from not having enough time?
    • Are you tired from trying to keep up with socials?
    • Are you overwhelmed by socials in general?
    • Are you tired from having short work deadlines and then questioning your ability?
    • Are you tired from juggling jobs, your hustle and your hobbies?

There are many more burnout questions, but you get the gist. If you're tired or think you're getting tired, listen in.

As always, help out the channel and the mission by following, liking and commenting, subscribing and getting across all the socials. Also, sign up for the Patreon if you can; every little bit helps.

  • CBF'd to Motivated AF - Motivation with Anne Bonney
    2023/05/31

Motivation is a powerful tool to get closer to your dreams -- next to fear and coffee... sometimes I mistake coffee for motivation ha!
But when life is throwing you lemons, you're tired and run down or you're just feeling yuck, when anyone says "you've just got to get motivated," it's annoying enough to make you want to throw a lemon at their kneecap.
It's hard to get motivated to do things you don't want to do, but sometimes it's hard to get motivated to do the things you DO want to do - why? And how to we get over it and get on with it?
Funny you ask, because the guest on todays episode has two books and one is named just that, Get Over it .
Today's guest is a motivational speaker who I met when volunteering with elephants in Thailand #cultured and she is an absolute legend. In this chat we cover change - internally and externally, motivation and what the resistance is to get over it and we talk about tools to see that resistance, throw a lemon at it and get on with the show.

    She's an awesome chick and I highly recommend you go follow her on all the things (including listening to her podcast which I have a cheeky guest appearance on) - see below;
