  • Casey Mitchell Tells Her Story
    2021/09/09

At 19 years old Casey Mitchell overdosed on her family's living room floor. Her sister saved her life.

Casey's sobriety date is 10/24/13 so this October she will celebrate her 8th anniversary.

Casey's best friend Jessica McKinley, who I previously interviewed in episode 7, stayed by Casey's side throughout her entire addiction. I have loved getting to know them and their friendship.

Casey considers herself an addict and alcoholic because heroin and alcohol were her drugs of choice, just depends on what time of her life.

Addiction runs in Casey's family, tune in to see what steps Casey takes to break the cycle!

  • Being A Reformed Felon with Jake Bishop
    2021/08/26

Jake Bishop is a native of the Rochester area and has had a long history of helping the community through volunteering and outreach programs. Campaigning for congressional and mayoral candidates sparked his passion for inspiring others and speaking publicly.

In 2015, Jake was arrested for trafficking and distributing 132pds of marijuana which led to an arrest for distribution/possession. After a period of incarceration, Jake has worked tirelessly to help the community and considers himself a reformed felon, as well as an advocate for recovery.

In 2019 he formed Rising Up Recovery to inform the public about the opioid crisis and help those suffering from addiction by providing awareness and being active in the community with the resources to help.

Jake discusses recovery and addiction with politicians, healthcare workers, former substance users, and community activists to inform the public/educate the public.

Jake lives happily in Brighton with his German Shepherd Ally and enjoys cooking, weightlifting at the JCC, and spending time with his lovely girlfriend Dawn and her two daughters.

His favorite quote “If you treat me good I will treat you better”

Using his personal experiences and blunt attitude, Jake hopes to prevent others from going down this same path.

Rising Up Recovery can be heard on Mondays from 1 to 2 pm.

  • 20 Years of Sobriety & More with Dan Springer
    2021/08/05

Dan has been in recovery for more than 20 years, he has been in six rehabs and countless detoxes. Today, after nearly dying 18 months ago, Dan is clean and sober. His story is like many others, however, the journey is quite different.

Dan is 55 years old and is married to a recovering addict and alcoholic who also suffers from mental health issues.

It is imperative that “we” as a country begin to change the long-standing stigma of addiction. Many (most) people think of homeless people or those who come from horrible beginnings as addicts. I have been an executive in numerous white-collar companies and now run a successful business.

Tune in to listen to Dan share his story but, more importantly, discuss his own journey and offer hope to those who are feeling hopeless and helpless.

As Dan likes to say, “The only time you look down on someone is when you are giving them a hand up (not a handout).”
