Welcome to Mom Truths, presented by “The Motherhood Dilemma” podcast.
Trigger Warning: Postpartum Depression, Infant Loss, SIDS, Grief and Adoption
In todays episode, it is our pleasure to present Kelly Smedley, MSM,.PMHCNS-BC, owner of “Waypoint Counseling & Maternal Wellness” in North Carolina.
She shares her personal journey of navigating motherhood through challenges of loss, pain, and heartache, beauty and growth. Kelly recounts her maternal journey of postpartum depression, the loss of a child to SIDS, adoption and the healing that is possible.
As Kelly is a perinatal mental health specialist in her professional life, she adds to todays story by explaining the importance of "feeling all the feelings" during grief, finding hope in the future, and acknowledging ongoing grief. Kelly advises mothers to embrace all emotions, both positive and negative, and allow themselves to rediscover joy. Conversations about child loss, SIDS, and infant loss are challenging and can make others uncomfortable; Kelly shows us that sharing this journey can be healing for all involved. We are honored to feature Kelly and her inspiring story.
